How Do You Make French Toast

We usually squeeze French toast onto our family menu at least once a month. It is a incredibly simple high protein meal to make. It is pretty hard to mess up French toast.

One of the good things about French toast is that it allows you to accommodate many tastes when serving because it can be decorated a variety of ways to individually suit.

French toast is incredibly versatile because it is not just for breakfast anymore. It works for breakfast, lunch or supper.

Leftovers can be individually frozen and reheated in the toaster. This recipe makes six slices of French toast.

The Ingredients

• 4 eggs
• 2 egg whites
• 6 slices of whole wheat bread
• 1/4 tsp cinnamon (plus more to taste)
• 1 tbsp cooking oil
• syrup or jam or other favorite topping

The Directions

Use a wide mouthed bowl with bit of a flat base that will fit a full slice of bread. Add eggs to bowl, be sure to remove the white embryos. Add cinnamon. Beat eggs with fork or whisk until a light bubbles form.

Some people use old bread but I think fresh bread tastes so much better. I freeze it a bit so it won't break apart in the egg mixture when I'm trying to coat it.

Heat electric frying pan or griddle to 325 degrees. Add oil and coat evenly with paper towel.

Put one slice in egg mixture at a time. Flip quickly to coat. You don't want it to soak up too much of the eggs. There is exactly enough for six slices of regular size bread. You may have to sprinkle the last two slices with additional cinnamon.

Cook about one to two minutes or until golden brown, flip and cook an additional two minutes.

Serve with additional cinnamon, syrup or jam.
